As well as a place in Scottish Open history, Alex Norén now also has his own special spot reserved in the Castle Stuart trophy cabinet.

Shortly after securing his one-shot victory on Sunday afternoon in the Aberdeen Asset Management sponsored event, the Swedish star was adding his name to a unique roll call at host Castle Stuart Golf Links.

The venue overlooking the Moray Firth opened in 2009 but has now hosted four of the last six Scottish Opens.

In the aftermath of his win, Norén signed a bottle of limited-edition Tomatin Highland single malt whisky specially created for Castle Stuart. His version will now sit alongside bottles signed by previous Scottish Open winners at Castle Stuart – Luke Donald (2011), Jeev Milkha Singh (2012) and Phil Mickelson (2013) – in the cabinet alongside a photograph.

Stuart McColm, Castle Stuart’s general manager, said: “It’s become a tradition that the Scottish Open champion is given a bottle of Tomatin whisky which he signs to put on display at the course.

“Alex was a worthy winner on Sunday and we are delighted he is joining our line-up of champions at Castle Stuart.”

Castle Stuart released 340 uniquely numbered bottles of Tomatin to mark its fifth birthday. It subsequently released another 300 of a new edition malt.
