Henrik Stenson’s victory in The Open Championship maintained a remarkable sequence involving Castle Stuart Golf Links.

Stenson played last week in the Aberdeen Asset Management at Castle Stuart before heading to Royal Troon to compete for the claret jug.
It means that on each of the four occasions Castle Stuart has hosted the Scottish Open, the field has included the following week’s Open champion.
Darren Clarke (2011), Ernie Els (2012) and Phil Mickelson (2013) all played on the course overlooking the Moray Firth near Inverness ahead of securing their Major victories.
Mickelson is so far the only player to win the double with victory at The Open at Muirfield a few days after his Scottish Open success.
Seven of the Top 10 players at The Open this year were in the field last week at Castle Stuart.
Stuart McColm, Castle Stuart’s general manager, said: “Having another Open champion emerge from the Scottish Open field at Castle Stuart re-emphasises that this is a great place to experience links golf and prepare for a Major title.
“The course here provides a true challenge for the players under tournament conditions, but in a way that is enjoyable and won’t beat them up ahead of The Open a few days later.
“It really is a notable sequence and demonstrates that Castle Stuart is the place to fine tune your game ahead of The Open the following week.”
During the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open many of the players praised the Castle Stuart course.
Phil Mickelson, the 2013 Scottish Open champion and runner-up in The Open yesterday, said: “I love Castle Stuart. It’s got a great mixture of holes, birdie holes, tough pars, great shot-making skills. It gives you a chance to get accustomed to the wind, to the air, the fescue grass, the challenge of links golf, playing the ball on the ground, getting it out of the air.
“But it doesn’t beat you up and punish you the way The Open Championship does. So you arrive at The Open Championship fresh and ready to play, as opposed to worn out already.”
Castle Stuart Golf Links opened in 2009 and has achieved global acclaim in its first seven years.
