LOCAL OPEN WILL BRING CURTAIN DOWN ON 2016 SEASON

Players are preparing to tee up for the final of the Castle Stuart Men’s Local Open this weekend, our traditional end-of-season contest.

Eleven golfers will compete for the title on Saturday, 12 November having come through a capacity field of 188 in the qualifying rounds on 29 and 30 October.

Neil Urquhart (Inverness) topped the Saturday qualifiers with 36 Stableford points and a better inward half than Michael Howitt (Nairn Dunbar) who finished with the same score. They will be joined in the final by Michael Russell (Torvean), who had 35 points, Kevin Dick and Rikki Selkirk (Inverness) and Innes Simpson (Nairn) who all scored 34 points.

Nearest the pin competitions were won by Tim Hinde (Nairn) at the 9th and Neil Urquhart (Inverness) at the 11th.

On Sunday, the top scorer was Graham Fraser (Inverness) with 39 points, followed by Edward Morrison (Inverness) with 36 points. Joining them on 12 November with 35 points scored are Iain Cormack (Boat of Garten), Walter Geddes (Inverness) and John Jack (Fortrose and Rosemarkie.

Nearest the pin was won by Colin Anderson (Hopeman) on the 9th and John Macleod (Inverness) on the 11th.

The Local Open is being held for the sixth time and has grown steadily since being launched in 2011. The event is open to golfers living in the Highland postcode areas IV, KW and PH19 – PH41.

Last year’s winner was Scott MacDonald from Boat of Garten who topped a 12-strong field in the final with a Stableford score of 37 points.
