VISIT TO CASTLE STUART PREPARES ME FOR NEW SEASON

  • April 10, 2017

The start of any new golf season is an exciting time and I always love the opportunity that each new year brings.

This week I’m heading for Morocco for my first event of 2017. The temperature at this time of year is normally in the 20s C, so it will be a nice way to begin a long year.

My preparations included a visit to Castle Stuart Golf Links where I tested my game on a wonderful course that is looking in spectacular shape having just recently opened for the new season. I like to get to Castle Stuart as often as I can and this year was able to play in the annual Cardholders’ Day alongside the club’s corporate guests and take part in a Q&A afterwards.

While playing in the Scottish Highlands perhaps didn’t acclimatise me temperature wise for Morocco, it did allow me to practice all aspects of my game on a course that has hosted the Scottish Open four times in the last six years. I feel very fortunate to be able to take advantage of playing one of the best courses, and golf facilities, in Scotland.

It also gave me the opportunity to try out the new season’s clothing which has very kindly been provided by Castle Stuart. I love the new Puma gear and Sunderland waterproofs; the colours are fun and bright, the fit is feminine and the materials are all technologically advanced to keep you cool, warm or dry, depending on their purpose.

I got to select the colour schemes I wanted, although I would trust Jeremy, Castle Stuart’s Director of Golf, to pick out clothes for me as he always has the pro-shop well stocked with good looking clothes for both the men and women who visit.

The most important aspects of golf clothes for me are comfort and performance – you want to be comfortable and cool in the Dubai heat, and then warm and dry in the Scottish winters (and sometimes summers!)

Aside from the practical requirements of my clothes, I always like wearing nice bright colours, which is why this year my two main colour schemes are pink and purple.

Castle Stuart’s sponsorship is invaluable. Support in the women’s game, especially in Europe, is hard to come by and they have supported me from the very beginning, before I had even earned my Ladies European Tour card.

I want to thank them and my other sponsors by doing well this season. My focus to begin with is to get off to a strong start and play my way in to the Ricoh Women’s British Open, which is being played at Kingsbarns this year.

There is no greater privilege than being able to play in front of a home crowd, so my first goal of the season is to give myself that opportunity come August. My time spent at Castle Stuart has only made me more determined to achieve that.
