Another capacity field is expected to battle it out next weekend to qualify for our season finale, the Castle Stuart Men’s Local Open.
During Saturday and Sunday, 29 and 30 October, more than 200 golfers will play over the links, aiming to secure a place in the Open final on 13 November.
We only have two slots left for the competition: one on Saturday and one on Sunday. So if you haven’t already booked, please get in touch.
Last year’s winner, Scott MacDonald from Boat of Garten, (pictured, right, with Castle Stuart director of golf Jeremy Matte) who topped a 12-strong field in the final with a Stableford score of 37 points, is hoping to defend his title.
He and the rest of the field will be battling it out not just to claim bragging rights but a top prize of a place on the Castle Stuart team in next year’s Highland Golf Links Pro-Am, sponsored by Blue Group.
The Men’s Local Open is the traditional end of season event at Castle Stuart, which closes once the final is completed and re-opens on 24 March 2017.
It is being held for the sixth time and has grown steadily since being launched in 2011. Last year we attracted a capacity entry of 208 golfers living in the postcode areas IV, KW and PH19 – PH41. With just those few spots left we expect to match that number this year.
It is a keenly-anticipated event in our calendar and is a great way to bring the curtain down on another busy and successful season. Interest in the event continues to grow and this year there is the added incentive of following in the footsteps of the likes of Open champion Henrik Stenson, Ryder Cup players Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, JB Holmes, Andy Sullivan, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Pieters, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Rafa Cabrera Bello, as well as British Masters winner Alex Noren.
All these players competed in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart in the summer, including winner Noren who has now won three times on the European Tour this year.
The Local Open is always a fiercely-fought contest and we are keenly anticipating another exciting and entertaining occasion in what we hope will be wonderful autumnal conditions.
We wish everyone good luck
