A strong first day performance helped the Sassenachs’ team to victory and regain the Spire Trophy in the annual match at Caste Stuart Golf Links. The two-day event was played in glorious conditions and, despite an improved performance by the Castle Stuart team on Sunday, they went down by a score of 11 ½ to 8½. Leading overnight by 6½ to 3½ after the Saturday four balls, the Sassenachs won back the trophy when Sunday’s competition ended with the teams scoring 5 points each. Castle Stuart Golf Links is seeking entries from today (Tuesday, 6 March) for the Highland Ladies’ Open, which this year will have a new format and an extended capacity. The four-time Scottish Open venue is hosting the annual event for the fourth time on Sunday, 12 August. This year the event will be an individual Stableford competition, rather than a pairs contest, and the capacity will be extended from 40 players to 56.
