REMINDERS OF SCOTLAND ALL AROUND IN FLORIDA

Castle Stuart Director of Golf Jeremy Matte is spending much of January in his native US promoting the course and the wider Highlands to potential visitors and taking the best ideas from other clubs back to Scotland. In this blog, Jeremy enjoys healthy eating and gets involved in a Dogfight REMINDERS OF SCOTLAND ALL AROUND IN FLORIDA It’s been about two years since I’ve been to the southern states of eastern America, so it’s been interesting to see how things have changed in that time. For one thing, there is more emphasis on health conscience options in restaurants, cafes and grocery...

In her third post, she reveals her love of links golf and her hopes of playing in the Scottish Open this month  Two major events in the LET calendar are coming up in the next few weeks on home soil and I’m hoping for the opportunity to play in both. DUKE’S SHIELD TEAMS END DUAL IN THE SUN AT CASTLE STUART

John ‘The Duke’ Sutherland My return flight to the US this week seemed longer than usual having failed to recapture the annual Duke’s Shield. But the result was always secondary to being able to enjoy a couple of stunning days in the Scottish Highlands playing two of the country’s finest links courses in glorious sunshine. This regular trip with 16 golfing friends is a highlight in the calendar, and when the weather is kind, as it was at Castle Stuart and Nairn for our two-day competition, there is no better place to be. The Dukes Shield started as a friendly Ryder Cup-style...

NEW CHALLENGES AWAIT AT CASTLE STUART IN 2017

by Chris Haspell, Castle Stuart course manager. With summer time starting on Sunday, the better weather and brighter days make it a perfect time for Castle Stuart to open for 2017, our eighth full season. And players will discover a few changes, and some interesting new challenges, on the course when we get underway today. These begin on the 1st tees, which have been made on average 35 yards longer by moving the tee boxes back in order to make the opening drive slightly more challenging without it being too intimidating. The biggest change is on the 560 yard 6th hole. Last year...

CASTLE STUART PLAYERS WILL AVOID A TRIP AT THE TRAP THIS YEAR

A new kind of challenge awaits players returning to the renowned Castle Stuart Golf Links when it opens for the 2017 season next week. A formidable and all too familiar feature of the Moray Firth course has undergone a make-over during the last few weeks as staff prepare the course for its 8th season which starts on 24th March. Golfers will find the front part of the large fearsome bunker to the right of the 6th green has been filled in and turfed over. The large trap, with 3-4ft high banks, has caught out hundreds of golfers since the course opened in 2009, with very few being able...

SNOW MAKES ME FEEL AT HOME IN THE US

This year, Sean Gunn has temporarily left his operations job at Castle Stuart Golf Links to take up an internship at the renowned Bandon Dunes golf resort in Oregon as part of his career development. In the first of a series of blogs on his new role, he describes swapping the Moray Firth for the Pacific coast. My initial thought on arrival at Bandon Dunes was that the place is extremely impressive. The resort has four 18-hole courses and a 13-hole par 3 course. All four courses have recently been placed comfortably in the Top 100 in North America and to have them all on the same property...
