The third Highland Ladies Open at Castle Stuart Golf Links was a highly successful event with a capacity field contesting the title.

In all 20 team from throughout the region competed over the four-time Scottish Open venue. The wining pair were Chris York (Nairn) and Jenny Gill (Inverness) who finished with an impressive 47 Stableford points.

That was four points more than runners-up Aileen Wilson and Karen MacKay (Fortrose and Rosemarkie). Anne Sangster and Cathryn Field (also from Fortrose and Rosemarkie) finished third on 42 points.

The prize for nearest the pin on hole 11 was won by Moira McBeath (Thurso) and nearest the pin in 2 on hole 16 was Karen MacKay.

The Ladies Open is limited to 20 teams, each of two women, resident in the KW, IV or PH19–41 postcode areas. It has grown steadily since we introduced it in 2015 and is now extremely popular with demand for places growing each year.

The response when we launched this year’s event in June was amazing and within a matter of days we had filled half the field. Enquiries then kept coming in and the remaining places were quickly snapped up weeks ahead of the tournament

The high-quality list of competitors included Linsey Munro (Inverness Golf Club), who won last year’s event with Jackie Philips (also from Inverness Golf Club)

This year players had the added bonus of having one of the UK’s leading golf coaches help them prepare for the competition.

Former Curtis Cup player Gillian Stewart, a four-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, is now a respected coach based at Castle Stuart and was on hand to offer some tips on the putting green before tee off.

We are already looking forward to the 2018 tournament and will announce shorty  when entries will  open.
