"A new addition to the family has arrived at Castle Stuart and takes the form of a bunkerless 9-hole par 3 with no hole more than 100yds in length. The layout takes you in to punch bowls and out to infinity edge greens where shot making imagination is required at all times. Continuing the Mark Parsinen design ethos this is fascinatingly fun, endlessly enjoyable, utterly unique in its concept and a great way to start or finish your Castle Stuart experience, a must play for golfers of all levels.”

Stuart McColm, General Manager

Building a Par 3

Our General Manager, Stuart McColm, gives us the lowdown on a new addition to the Castle Stuart family, our very own 9-hole par 3 course which he co-designed with the late Mark Parsinen (both pictured above).

Who designed the new Par 3 course at Castle Stuart
Designed by the late Mark Parsinen and Stuart McColm, it was constructed 2018/2019 by the in-house team and is now available for play.

What is the design concept
Fun, links short game with rumple, no bunkers, Himalayas (at St Andrews) style, and challenging pins with imagination required.

What else can you tell us
It’s a smaller version of the championship course with similar characteristics (seclusion, infinity greens, compression and release, confounding and helping contours where angles matter).

What are the yardages
There are no yardages on each hole, though they are all inside 100 yards – play it as you see it, on the ground, bump and run or with loft.

Who can play
Only golfers on the day playing the 18 holes, except corporates and lodge guests, are able to play the par 3.

How many people can play
Up to 8 players can play at one time but require 2 tee times. Tee times 15 mins apart.

Golf bags
Par 3 bags are available from the Golf as only a few clubs will likely be needed.

Other Important information

No trolleys or caddies are allowed – this is to minimise wear and protect turf conditions in early years.

Our pro, Gillian Stewart is available for golf and links lessons.

The Par 3 barrel
Can be found at the start of the course. It houses pencils, tees and scorecards at 1st tee.

£50pp per 9 holes.

When is it open
Open in season 9.30am – 6.00pm.
