Gls Overcome, Overpower And Under Par At Castle Stuart
A stunning back nine helped Global Infrastructure to a memorable win in the annual Castle Stuart Cardholders’ Day as teams took time off from the football World Cup to focus on the smaller ball at the weekend.
After a slow start, which saw Team GI’s David MacDonald and Iain Henderson reach the turn in a four-under score of 32, they stepped up the pace on the back 9.
Three net birdies and three net eagles, including a chip-in at the Par-3 17th, helped David and Iain to a finishing score of 59 and 13 under par to win the ‘Shambles’ format event.
That was four shots ahead of the 63 posted by the Korrie’s team who finished alone in second place.
The McLeod and Aitken team posted the best score in the gross section – with a two under par score of 70.
Graham Nicolson, from Tomatin, won nearest to the pin on the signature 4th hole, while Tulloch Homes’ Kevin Tolmie was nearest to the pin in two shots on the driveable Par-4 16th hole, with a wonderful 2nd shot into six inches.
Another highly successful day was rounded off with steaks and World Cup-themed smoked beef burgers from the Ullapool Smokehouse which were inspired by Castle Stuart’s head chef, Chris MacLeod, who sourced a football-shaped pretzel bun for the occasion.
