Major Events Provide Welcome Links To Home
In her third post, she reveals her love of links golf and her hopes of playing in the Scottish Open this month
Two major events in the LET calendar are coming up in the next few weeks on home soil and I’m hoping for the opportunity to play in both.
Two great tournaments on wonderful Scottish links courses and it would mean so much to me to be part of these occasions.
I am hoping to receive an invite into the Scottish Open, which is my home event and my favourite tournament of the year. Unfortunately, due to back problems last year, I did not finish the 2016 season high enough up on the Order of Merit to be automatically in the event that has grown significantly in size as it has become a co-sanctioned LET-LPGA fixture.
As reported in the media recently, the LET has had difficulty attracting sponsors over the last couple of years and the number of tournaments on our schedule has been shrinking. It means I have not played in any LET events since April which, unfortunately, has led to a lack of competitive golf going into this important part of the season.
Having said that, I am really happy with my overall game at the moment. I have spent the last few weeks really working on my putting and on my ‘links golf’ shots to ensure that I am prepared if I am fortunate enough to receive invites to take part in the Scottish and British Opens.
I love the challenges that links golf presents and the opportunities to be creative that links courses and conditions encourage. This is part of the reason I fell in love with Castle Stuart as, in my opinion, it is one of the best links courses in Scotland.
Playing at Dundonald and Kingsbarns and having the chance to have all of my friends and family come out and support me would be amazing.
It would be nice to be able to give back to those who have supported me throughout the years and for them to have an opportunity to see me compete.
