Castle Stuart Announces Support for Golf Series as Opening Venue

Castle Stuart has announced its support for the Get Back to Golf Tour series and will be the opening venue from Apr 26th to May 9th.

The competition is a fun and exciting tour with a unique format open to all golf professionals and amateurs with a handicap of two or better. It was devised by Alan Tait (pictured) – an ex European Tour pro, BBC Radio Scotland commentator, and the UK Managing Director for GolPhin for Kids.

Stuart McColm, Castle Stuart General Manager, said: “We greatly respect all that this initiative stands for. The series has a vision to help better players by bringing some decent prizemoney and camaraderie to the Scottish circuit. It is aimed primarily at low handicap, scratch golfers or better, and will bring them together at a time when we most need it. It will help with general health and well-being, and all on great courses in both a competitive as well as scenic landscape.”

Alan Tait has played at a very high level and alongside some of the world’s greatest players back in the nineties. He and Castle Stuart’s Board Chairman, Grant Sword, first worked together at Westerwood GC where Alan was his Director of Golf.

The 2021 Get Back to Golf Tour (sponsored by Bunkered magazine) has a schedule of 12 events and will get underway with the first event being at Castle Stuart Golf Links. New for this year, players will have 14 days rather than ten to post their score at each venue. This gives the players more flexibility and is not as demanding on the host venues for tee times.

To participate, players simply need to:

  • Pay a one off joining fee subscription of £20 per person (registration opens on April 6);

  • Pay the £35 entry fee per event with £25 going direct to the prize fund, and £10 gratuity going to the host club;

  • Choose the date within the 14-day window to play the host course per event;

  • Choose their playing partners and enjoy 18 holes of medal strokeplay on one of Scotland’s top courses before submitting their score

It is expected that 20% of the field will win monetary prizes (amateurs receive vouchers) after all scores and results are revealed at the end of the 14 days with additional sponsored prizes for all 12 regional winners.

All 12 regional winners will play a grand final at Dumbarnie Links on October 24 for a minimum additional prize fund of £1,500, with the winner also receiving a seven-night trip to Orlando, Florida, for two people where they will have playing rights at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The runner-up will receive a trip to the La Cala Resort in Spain.

Tour organiser Alan Tait, said: “This really is a tour by players for players. Pros, amateurs, men, women, seniors, boys and girls alike. The more the merrier. Subject to COVID restrictions, of course, we have an exciting year ahead of us and on behalf of all golfers, a big thank you to Bunkered magazine and all of our event sponsors for their support.”

Said Stuart McColm: “Alan has walked the Castle Stuart fairways as an on-course commentator through the four ASI Scottish Opens held here in 2011-2013 and 2016. He is well versed on the nuance, subtlety and shot-making challenge that exists here at Castle Stuart and we know that all of the competitors in the upcoming series will no doubt see that when they play. It is a wonderful initiative, which we completely sanction on all levels and wholeheartedly wish Alan, the stakeholders and the competitors our very best wishes for a wonderful series in 2021.”
